In an effort to limit my contribution to the landfills, I’m constantly looking for ways to reuse and repurpose things.
Two items of concern are aluminum foil and plastic wrap. Aluminum is 100% recyclable, but used foil isn’t accepted at recycling centers and some collection programs don’t take it at all.
While certain types of plastics are recyclable, plastic cling wrap isn’t on the list.
One alternative is silicone. With the environment in mind, Charles Viancin decided to create a fun AND functional line of lids and kitchenware.
As the former Director of Marketing for a European silicone manufacturer, he formed the Charles Viancin Group in 2005. Because Charles was so inspired by nature he decided to set up his new company in the French Alps near beautiful Lake Annecy.
Combining innovative designs with the versatility of silicone they began producing the following:
- Airtight lids
- Drinkware accessories
- Cookware & utensils
- Tea accessories
The decision to use silicone was based on Viancin’s prior experience and knowledge of this amazing material. Not only is silicone reusable, but it’s non-toxic. As a natural and supple substance, it offers flexibility and functionality. Other advantages are that it’s:
- Durable
- Easy to clean
- Safe for extreme temperatures (hot and cold)
- Safe for oven, microwave (428 degrees Fahrenheit/220 degrees Celsius), refrigerator, and dishwasher
- Eliminates the waste of aluminum foil and plastic wrap
The decorative lids (pictured above) work on a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials including glass, plastic, ceramic, stainless steel, and wood. The silicone lid acts like a suction cup on a smooth rim to create an airtight seal. This provides insulation for hot and cold foods while deterring insects and preserving freshness and flavor.
Aside from lids, Charles Viancin Group delivers a wide range of playful yet practical kitchen accessories including:
- Cutting boards
- Pot holders
- Trivets
- Magnets
- Salad bowls
- Chef’s aprons & towels
- Collanders
- Steamer baskets & lids
- Bottle stoppers
- Drink covers & markers
These attractive, colorful, and useful products make great gifts for all the foodies on your list. Cooking is a year-round activity, so keep Charles Viancin in mind for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, showers, and Christmas giving.
